Learning
Growing in grace is a lifelong project. Christians who are baptized as infants begin their journey even before they can remember. At Grace we consciously design an entire spectrum of learning resources for persons of every age and stage of life. Together we open each other's lives to make way for the Holy Spirit to deepen our faith; together we discover how God is weaving the story of Jesus into the warp and woof of our lives. Confirmation Ministry

Adult Forum and Sunday School
Classes for everyone from three to ninety-three, 8:45 AM Sunday mornings, beginning September 11.

Midweek Bible Study - Watching Jesus Together: Exploring the Synoptic Gospels
Beginning in September the Midweek Bible Study will explore the synoptic gospels: Matthew, Mark and Luke. The gospels give us the story of Jesus and the New Testament contains four of them. The first three gospels are an interesting puzzle - in the broad details telling almost identical versions of the story, but with interesting twists on the detail level, with Matthew and Luke containing some materials peculiar to them. Reading these gospels side-by-side gives us interesting insights into the growth of the Jesus tradition in the early church - insights which can illumine our own faith in the twenty-first century. Classes meet twice a month on Thursday mornings, 10:00 - 11:30 a.m., beginning September 15. Click here to see the class schedule and access class notes.

Book Discussion Group

The Book Discussion Group meets weekly for breakfast at 7:00 am Thursday mornings throughout the year in the Grace Fellowship Hall. The group discusses a book which they have selected. Topics cover issues in religion, spirituality, ethics, and biblical interpretation. Our current book is Wrestling with the Divine: Religion, Science and Revelation  by Christopher C. Knight.

Confirmation Ministry

What is confirmation?

When young children are baptized, parents promise to help them grow in faith by teaching the Bible, the Ten Commandments, Creed and Lord's Prayer. Over the years at home, at church and Sunday School our children learn about what it means to be a Christian. When a child enters middle school, it’s time to "put it all together." That’s what we do in Confirmation. Here’s a good definition:

Confirmation is a pastoral and educational ministry of the church that helps the baptized through word and sacrament to identify more deeply with the Christian
community and participate more fully in its mission.

How does Grace prepare our youth for confirmation?

The pastor and members of Grace, along with parents, help young members to get ready. During September through May of the sixth through eighth grade years, youth meet with the pastor and other adult members of Grace to explore what baptism means and how we are a part of God’s plan to love the world. Some of our meetings happen on Sunday mornings, during the Christian Education Hour. And middle school confirmands also meet with the pastor on Wednesday evenings in a joint program with Atonement Lutheran Church.
